Kazakh Alexander Bublik, the No 23 seed, won against American Tommy Paul, the No 14 seed, 7-6 (5), 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-1 to advance to the last 16 of the US Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York on Sunday night.

It was a thrilling and hard-fought third-round encounter at the US Open, a late-night battle which extended into the early hours of Sunday morning. The contest was a rollercoaster of emotions, with each player trading powerful groundstrokes and moments of pure brilliance. Paul, backed by the partisan home crowd, fought valiantly, coming back from a two-sets-to-one deficit to force a deciding fifth set. His incredible comeback, however, was ultimately not enough to overcome the consistent pressure from the Kazakhstani player.

Bublik, the 23rd seed, demonstrated his signature unpredictable style, mixing in powerful serves and audacious drop shots to keep Paul off-balance. The turning point came in the fifth set, where Bublik’s fresher legs and focused play allowed him to dominate, breaking Paul’s serve multiple times and sealing the victory with a commanding 6-1 set.

The win marks a significant milestone for Bublik, as he advances to the fourth round of the US Open for the first time in his career, four months after his first major quarter-final. His reward is a challenging matchup against the top-seeded defending champion, Jannik Sinner. The Italian beat him at the French Open but was defeated by Bublik in Halle two weeks after.
