US Open: De Minaur books spot in third round

Australian Alex De Minaur, the No 8 seed, beat Japanese qualifier Shintaro Mochizuki 6-2, 6-4, 6-2 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York on Thursday to move into the third round of the US Open.

De Minaur, ranked No 8, will play the winner of the match between Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, the No 26 seed, and German Daniel Altmaier next.

In the previous round of the US Open, the Australian won against Christopher O’Connell (6-3, 6-4, 6-4).

Mochizuki, ranked No 112, defeated Frenchman Hugo Gaston (6-4, 6-3, 6-4) in the first round of the US Open.
