US Open: Haddad Maia is the last qualified for the last 16, Swiatek and other top seeds advance to Round of 16
Beatriz Haddad Maia defeated Maria Sakkari 6-1, 6-2 on Sunday night, in the last match of the day.

Top seed Iga Swiatek survived a scare in her third-round match on Saturday to lead a parade of seeded players into the last 16 of the U.S. Open as the tournament’s third round came to a close with a notable Gauff vs Osaka to be scheduled in the round of 16.
Swiatek, the second seed and former champion, overcame a spirited performance from Russia’s Anna Kalinskaya to prevail 7-6(2), 6-4. After a tightly contested first set where both players struggled to hold serve, Swiatek managed to find her rhythm in the crucial tiebreak, dominating with powerful groundstrokes to take a one-set lead. She carried that momentum into the second set, holding off a determined Kalinskaya to close out the match in just under two hours.
The victory was hard-earned for Swiatek, who faced a tougher challenge than her seeding suggested against the world number 29. Her win sets up a fascinating all-Eastern European encounter in the fourth round against a familiar opponent, Ekaterina Alexandrova, whom she leads in their head-to-head record with a small margin of 3-2.
All eyes on Gauff – Osaka
Alexandrova, the No. 13 seed, booked her spot with a dominant display, routing Germany’s Laura Siegemund 6-0, 6-1 in one of the most one-sided matches Saturday.
In other key results, a number of other seeds kept their title hopes alive. American third seed Coco Gauff dispatched Magdalena Frech of Poland 6-3, 6-1 in a comfortable victory that showcased her consistent form on home soil. Japan’s Naomi Osaka overcame a second-set stumble to defeat Russian Daria Kasatkina, 6-0, 4-6, 6-3. The win marked another step forward for the two-time US Open champion as she continues her comeback.
Elsewhere, Czech Karolina Muchova, the No. 11 seed, came back from a set down to defeat her younger compatriot Linda Noskova, 6-7(5), 6-4, 6-2. Wimbledon runner-up Amanda Anisimova battled past Argentina’s Jaqueline Cristian, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2, to secure a spot in the fourth round. Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk, the No. 27 seed, recovered from a first-set loss to beat France’s Diane Parry, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2, in a display of resilience.
