US Open: Medvedev through to last 16, men’s fourth round line-up complete

Russian Daniil Medvedev, the No 3 seed, defeated Argentinian Sebastian Baez 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (6) to advance to the last 16 of the US Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York on Saturday night.

US Open Men’s Fourth Round Line-Up is Complete

With Medvedev’s win, the men’s fourth round line-up is now set, with 10 of the top 16 seeds making it to the last 16.

Big hole in the third for Medvedev

After cruising through the first two sets, Medvedev found himself in a bit of a hole in the third as Baez broke to build a 4-1 lead. The Russian fought back and saved two set points as took the set to a tiebreaker and eventually won in straight sets.

Medvedev, ranked No 3, will play Australian Alex De Minaur, the No 13 seed, next. The Russian won against Hungarian Attila Balazs (6-1, 6-1, 6-0) and Australian Christopher O’Connell (6-2, 6-2, 6-7 (6), 6-2) ahead of his victory.

In the previous rounds of the Flushing Meadows tournament, Baez, ranked No 32, beat Croat Borna Coric, the No 27 seed (7-5, 7-5, 6-1) and Brazilian qualifier Felipe Meligeni Alves (6-7 (7), 6-4, 6-4 ret.).
