US Open: Ruse upsets Wimbledon champion Krejcikova to reach third round
Elena-Gabriela Ruse defeated Barbora Krejcikova 6-4, 6-0. She’ll Paula Badosa in the next round.

Romanian qualifier Elena-Gabriela Ruse defeated No 8 seed Barbora Krejcikova 6-4, 7-5 to reach the third round of the US Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York on Wednesday.
The defending Wimbledon champion was broken four times during the match, breaking Ruse’s serve for the first and only time mid-way through the second set. However, when trying to serve out the second set, Krejcikova failed to hold serve, before being broken for the match.
Ruse, ranked No 122, will play Spaniard Paula Badosa, the No 26 seed, next.
The Romanian won against Austrian Julia Grabher (6-2, 6-4) ahead of her victory.
In the previous round, Krejcikova, ranked No 8, won against Spanish qualifier Marina Bassols Ribera (7-6 (3), 6-2).
