US Open: Shelton progresses quickly to second round

American Ben Shelton, the No 6 seed, defeated Peruvian qualifier Ignacio Buse 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 to reach the second round of the US Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York on Sunday.

Despite a quick win (128 minutes), he has to serve five break points, two of them serving for the first set at 5-3.

Shelton, ranked No 6 and winner of one of the two Masters 1000 of the summer in Toronto, will play the winner of the match between Pablo Carreno Busta and qualifier Pablo Llamas Ruiz next.
