Rune rules himself out of Wimbledon as Achilles and recovery recovery continue
“It is not an easy decision,” said Holger Rune, ruling himself out of Wimbledon as his recovery from an October Achilles rupture continues. The Dane will have been sidelined eight and a half months, with no comeback date set.

Holger Rune will miss Wimbledon, the Danish former world No 4 confirming on Wednesday that he is not ready to return at the grass-court Grand Slam, which begins on 29 June.
The decision, relayed by his camp in a statement attributed to his mother and manager Aneke Rune to Danish media Sport TV2, extends a layoff that will reach eight and a half months by the start of the tournament.
“After a thorough assessment, we have decided that Holger will not take part at Wimbledon this year,” the statement read, before striking an optimistic note on his recovery. “Both the Achilles tendon and the knee are responding positively, and he is making steady progress on all fronts. All the scans also look good.”
I’m getting closer every day, and it’s very satisfying to feel the progress.
Rune himself framed the withdrawal as a hard but considered call. “It is not an easy decision to miss Wimbledon, but the long-term goal is unchanged: to come back stronger and be ready to compete at the highest level,” he said. “I’m getting closer every day, and it’s very satisfying to feel the progress. Spirits are high – see you soon.”
The 23-year-old has not played since rupturing an Achilles tendon at the Stockholm tournament in October 2025, an injury that required surgery and a long rehabilitation. He had initially targeted a comeback in the clay season, only to withdraw from Hamburg and Roland-Garros, and then pulled out of Queen’s earlier this month as the grass-court return proved premature.
Holger Rune was seen last week practising at the Mouratoglou Academy, where he appeared at the graduation of the tennis and school programme.
His camp gave no indication of when he now intends to play, leaving the timing of his return open.
