Wimbledon: Norrie halts Jarry fightback to surge into last eight
Cameron Norrie won against Nicolas Jarry 6-3, 7-6 (4), 6-7 (7), 6-7 (5), 6-3. He’ll face either Andrey Rublev or Carlos Alcaraz in the next round

Cameron Norrie moved into the last eight of Wimbledon by beating Chilean qualifier Nicolas Jarry 6-3, 7-6 (4), 6-7 (7), 6-7 (5), 6-3 at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.
The Briton looked on course for a comfortable victory after moving into a two-set lead, but was drawn into a lengthy five-set encounter under the roof on Court One as Jarry staged a remarkable fightback to claw back two of the sets.
The big-hitting Chilean used two tiebreaks to drag himself level, before Norrie accelerated away again in the final set, much to the delight of the partisan home crowd.
“Honestly I don’t know how I did that,” Norrie said after the win.
“He did an unbelievable job. He played better than me in both tie-breaks [that he lost]. I had to keep fighting. I forgot to get my coach a birthday present today, so I had to get the win for him.”
He said I was a little bit vocal but that is my energy.
There were some heated words exchanged at the net between the pair, as Jarry took exception with the way Norrie was celebrating some of the points.
“He said I was a little bit vocal but that is my energy. I told him he competed so well and it was a great match. I loved the Chilean fans too and the crowd pulled me through at the end.”
Norrie, ranked No 61, will play Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the second seed, next.
The Englishman won against Italian Mattia Bellucci (7-6 (5), 6-4, 6-3), American Frances Tiafoe, the No 12 seed (4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 7-5) and Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut (6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (3)) ahead of his victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Jarry, ranked No 143, won against Brazilian Joao Fonseca (6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (4)), American Learner Tien (6-2, 6-2, 6-3) and Dane Holger Rune, the No 8 seed (4-6, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4).
