Sinner advances to last 16

Italian Jannik Sinner, the No 10 seed, advanced to the last 16 of Wimbledon by beating American John Isner, the No 20 seed, 6-4, 7-6 (4), 6-3 at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London on Friday evening.

Sinner, ranked No 13, will play the winner of the match between German Oscar Otte, the No 32 seed, and Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the No 5 seed, next.

The 20-year-old Italian won against Swiss wildcard Stan Wawrinka (7-5, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2) and Swede Mikael Ymer (6-4, 6-3, 5-7, 6-2) ahead of his victory.

In the previous rounds, Isner, ranked No 24, won against French qualifier Enzo Couacaud (6-7 (6), 7-6 (3), 4-6, 6-3, 7-5) and edged out Andy Murray (6-4, 7-6 (4), 6-7 (3), 6-4).
