Auckland Open: Volynets makes quarter-finals

No 8 seed Katie Volynets moved into the quarter-finals of the Auckland Open by winning against Ann Li 6-4, 6-3 at the ASB Tennis Arena on Wednesday.

Volynets, ranked No 58, will play the winner of the match between Belgian Greet Minnen and American Alycia Parks next.

Ahead of her victory, Katie Volynets beat Russian Erika Andreeva (6-4, 6-7 (6), 6-2).

Li, ranked No 96, edged out Sloane Stephens (5-7, 6-4, 6-4) in the previous round of the Auckland tournament.
