Berlin Open: Gauff edges Pliskova, through to semi-finals

Coco Gauff won against Karolina Pliskova 7-5, 6-4 on Friday afternoon and will play the winner of the match between Tunisian Ons Jabeur, the top seed, and Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the next round

American Coco Gauff, the No 7 seed, reached the last four of the Berlin Open by winning against Czech Karolina Pliskova, the No 4 seed, 7-5, 6-4 at Rot-Weiss Tennis Club on Friday.

Roland-Garros runner-up Gauff, ranked No 13, will face the winner of the match between Tunisian Ons Jabeur, the top seed, and Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich for a place in the final.

Ahead of her victory, the 18-year-old American beat Ann Li (6-2, 7-6 (2)) and Chinese qualifier Xinyu Wang (6-0, 6-4).

Pliskova, ranked No 7, won against Estonian Kaia Kanepi (6-7 (5), 6-0, 6-0) and edged out Canadian Bianca Andreescu (6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (7)) earlier in the tournament.
