Potapova ousts Krejcikova to make semis in Birmingham

Russian Anastasia Potapova, the No 7 seed, defeated second seed Barbora Krejcikova 6-1, 6-4 to reach the last 4 of the Birmingham Open at Edgbaston Priory Club on Friday.
Potapova, ranked No 36, will face the winner of the match between Canadian Leylah Fernandez, the No 6 seed, and Australian Ajla Tomljanovic next.
The Russian won against qualifier Elina Avanesyan (6-4, 6-4) and Italian Lucia Bronzetti (6-3, 7-5) in the previous rounds of the Birmingham tournament.
Earlier in the tournament, Krejcikova, ranked No 25, beat Australian qualifier Daria Saville (6-1, 7-6 (5)) and wildcard Harriet Dart (6-3, 6-4).
