Bogota Open: 16-year-old Pareja becomes youngest WTA quarter-finalist since 2021

The 16-year-old qualifier will play the winner of the match between Leolia Jeanjean and Selena Janicijevic in the next round

16-year-old American qualifier Julieta Pareja continued her dream week with a win over Romanian lucky loser Patricia Maria Tig 6-3, 7-6 (3) to move into the quarter-finals of the Bogota Open on Wednesday.

The win makes Pareja the youngest to make a WTA Tour-level quarter-final since 2021.

Pareja will face the winner of the match between Leolia Jeanjean and Selena Janicijevic next.

Ahead of her win today, the American won against Colombian wildcard Maria Jose Sanchez Uribe (6-1, 6-1) in the main draw.

Tig, ranked No 243, beat Colombian Emiliana Arango, the No 4 seed (6-3, 6-3) in the previous round of the tournament.
