American Jessica Pegula, the No 4 seed, won against Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 to advance to the quarter-finals of the Brisbane International presented by ANZ on Thursday night.
Pegula, ranked No 6, will face Russian Liudmila Samsonova, the No 10 seed, next.
In the previous round, the American edged out Russian Anna Kalinskaya (6-2, 2-6, 6-4).
Yastremska, ranked No 27, beat Canadian Leylah Fernandez, the No 13 seed (6-1, 6-2) and Australian wildcard Talia Gibson (7-6 (3), 7-6 (4)) earlier in the tournament.
