Second seed Irina-Camelia Begu defeated No 8 seed Anca Todoni 7-6 (6), 6-4 to move into the semi-finals of the Cali Open on Thursday.
Begu, ranked No 102, will play Australian qualifier Tina Nadine Smith next.
In the previous rounds, Irina-Camelia Begu won against Peruvian wildcard Lucciana Perez Alarcon (6-1, 6-2) and Colombian Emiliana Arango (6-2, 6-2).
Todoni, ranked No 117, beat Slovak qualifier Martina Okalova (6-0, 6-0) and Argentinian Solana Sierra (6-4, 7-6 (5)) earlier in the tournament.
