Canadian Open: Tauson advances to last 16
Clara Tauson beat Yuliia Starodubtseva 6-3, 6-0 on Friday. She’ll face the winner of the match between German Eva Lys and Pole Iga Swiatek, the second seed, in the next round
Dane Clara Tauson, the No 16 seed, won against Ukrainian Yuliia Starodubtseva 6-3, 6-0 to reach the last 16 of the Canadian Open at the IGA Stadium in Montreal on Friday evening.
Tauson, ranked No 19, will face the winner of the match between German Eva Lys and Pole Iga Swiatek, the second seed, next.
Starodubtseva, ranked No 74, defeated Pole Magdalena Frech, the No 21 seed (6-1, 6-1) and edged out Chinese qualifier Yafan Wang (6-7 (6), 6-4, 6-4) earlier in the tournament.
