No 5 seed Varvara Lepchenko advanced to the last 16 of the Cancun Tennis Open by winning against Maria Mateas 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 on Tuesday.

Lepchenko, ranked No 125, will face the winner of the match between Spaniard Irene Burillo Escorihuela and French lucky loser Selena Janicijevic next.
