Catalonia Open: Sasnovich advances to semi-finals

Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich beat Spaniard Carlota Martinez Cirez 6-3, 7-5 to advance to the semi-finals of the Catalonia Open on Thursday.
Sasnovich, ranked No 110, will face Swiss Rebeka Masarova next.
The Belarusian edged out Colombian Emiliana Arango (6-7 (4), 6-3, 7-6 (5)) and won against Canadian Leylah Fernandez, the top seed (6-4, 2-6, 6-2) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous rounds, Martinez Cirez, ranked No 244, won against Australian Ajla Tomljanovic, the No 7 seed (6-4, 7-6 (2)) and Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto (6-1, 6-3).
