American qualifier Mccartney Kessler beat Russian Kamilla Rakhimova 7-5, 6-2 to reach the last 8 of the Charleston Open 125 at the Family Circle Tennis Center on Wednesday evening.
Kessler, ranked No 123, will play the winner of the match between Spanish qualifier Marina Bassols Ribera and Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto, the No 4 seed, next.
The American edged out Chinese Lin Zhu, the No 5 seed (3-6, 6-4, 7-5) ahead of her victory.
In the previous round of the Charleston 125 tournament, Rakhimova, ranked No 95, won against American wildcard Louisa Chirico (6-4, 6-4).
