Charleston Open: Kudermetova sees off Rogers challenge

Russian Veronika Kudermetova, the No 9 seed, won against American wildcard Shelby Rogers 7-6 (5), 6-4 to reach the last 16 of the Charleston Open at the Family Circle Tennis Center on Wednesday night.

Kudermetova, ranked No 19, will face the winner of the match between Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No 5 seed, and American Caroline Dolehide next.

Rogers, ranked No 325, defeated qualifier Claire Liu (6-1, 6-1) in the previous round of the Charleston tournament.
