Charleston Open: Top seed Pegula books spot in last eight

American Jessica Pegula, the top seed, won against Pole Magda Linette 6-2, 6-2 to reach the quarter-finals of the Charleston Open at the Family Circle Tennis Center on Thursday evening.

Pegula, ranked No 5, will play the winner of the match between Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, the No 12 seed, and American Taylor Townsend next.

The American edged out Amanda Anisimova (3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (3)) ahead of her victory.

In the previous rounds of the Charleston tournament, Linette, ranked No 63, defeated Croat Petra Martic (6-3, 6-4) and Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska, the No 13 seed (0-6, 6-4, 6-3).
