Russian Mirra Andreeva, the No 17 seed, reached the last 16 of the China Open by edging out Croat Donna Vekic, the No 16 seed, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 at the National Tennis Center in Beijing.
Andreeva, ranked No 22, will play Pole Magda Linette, the No 31 seed, next.
Ahead of her victory, the 17-year-old Russian defeated Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu (6-7 (5), 6-1, 6-1).
Vekic, ranked No 20, edged out Swiss Viktorija Golubic (4-6, 7-6 (3), 6-4) in the previous round of the Beijing tournament.
