Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the No 9 seed, advanced to the second round of the China Open by winning against Ukrainian qualifier Kateryna Baindl 6-2, 6-4 on Monday night.
Garcia, ranked No 10, will face Kazakh qualifier Yulia Putintseva next.
