Western & Southern Open: Kostyuk books spot in second round
Marta Kostyuk edged out Elise Mertens 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 on Tuesday evening. She’ll face New Zealander qualifier Lulu Sun in the next round

Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk, the No 15 seed, advanced to the second round of the Western & Southern Open by edging out Belgian Elise Mertens 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Cincinnati on Tuesday.
Kostyuk, ranked No 21, will face New Zealander qualifier Lulu Sun next.
