Anastasia Potapova, the No 5 seed, won against Romanian qualifier Ana Bogdan 6-2, 6-1 to advance to the semi-finals of the Cleveland Open at Jacobs Pavilion on Thursday.
Potapova, ranked No 43, will play the winner of the match between Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus and American wildcard McCartney Kessler next.
Ahead of her victory, the Russian beat Frenchwoman Diane Parry (6-3, 6-2) and Dane Clara Tauson (6-2, 6-2).
Bogdan, ranked No 103, won against Canadian Leylah Fernandez, the second seed (1-6, 7-6 (2), 6-2) and Belgian lucky loser Greet Minnen (7-6 (3), 6-3) earlier in the tournament.
