Dow Tennis Classic: Marino eases past Korneeva to reach semi-finals

Canadian Rebecca Marino, the No 6 seed, won against Russian Alina Korneeva 6-4, 7-5 to move into the last four of the Dow Tennis Classic on Friday evening.
Marino, ranked No 115, will play the winner of the match between American wildcard Karina Miller and Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko, the No 8 seed, next.
The 33-year-old Canadian beat American qualifier Robin Anderson (6-4, 7-6 (4)) and edged out American Louisa Chirico (6-7 (8), 6-2, 7-6 (7)) ahead of her victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Korneeva, ranked No 184, won against Australian Maya Joint, the No 4 seed (7-5, 7-6 (4)) and Gabriela Knutson (7-5, 7-5).
