American wildcard Lauren Davis beat Australian Astra Sharma 6-3, 7-6 (5) to move into the last 8 of the Fifth Third Charleston 125 2 on Wednesday evening.
Davis, ranked No 311, will play the winner of the match between Romanian qualifier Gabriela Lee and American Iva Jovic, the No 8 seed, next.
In the previous round, the American won against Hungarian Panna Udvardy, the No 4 seed (6-1, 6-4).
Sharma, ranked No 245, defeated Israeli Lina Glushko (6-3, 6-0) in the previous round.
