Australian wildcard Ajla Tomljanovic won against Romanian Miriam Bulgaru 7-6 (5), 6-2 to advance to the semi-finals of the Florianopolis Open on Friday evening.
Ajla Tomljanovic will play Mexican Renata Zarazua next.
Ahead of her victory, the Australian beat Frenchwoman Fiona Ferro (6-7 (5), 7-5, 6-3) and edged out Ipek Oz (5-7, 7-6 (6), 7-5).
Bulgaru, ranked No 200, won against Brazilian Laura Pigossi (6-7 (4), 7-6 (4), 6-0) and Argentinian Solana Sierra (1-6, 6-2, 6-3) in the previous rounds of the Brazilian tournament.
