German Tatjana Maria, the No 3 seed, advanced to the quarter-finals of the Galaxy Holding Group Guangzhou Open by winning against Chinese wildcard Zhuoxuan Bai 6-1, 6-2 on Wednesday.
Maria, ranked No 48, will face the winner of the match between Kazakh Yulia Putintseva and Dane Clara Tauson next.
Ahead of her victory, the 36-year-old German beat Filipino qualifier Alexandra Eala (6-3, 6-0).
Bai, ranked No 129, won against Greek qualifier Despina Papamichail (6-3, 7-5) in the previous round.
