Kazakh Yulia Putintseva moved into the last 4 of the Galaxy Holding Group Guangzhou Open by winning against German Tatjana Maria, the No 3 seed, 6-4, 6-7 (6), 6-0 on Thursday.
Putintseva, ranked No 81, will face the winner of the match between Pole Magda Linette, the top seed, and Spaniard Rebeka Masarova, the No 5 seed, next.
Ahead of her victory, the Kazakh defeated Chinese wildcard Xiaodi You (6-4, 6-0) and Dane Clara Tauson (3-6, 7-6 (5), 0-0 ret.).
Maria, ranked No 48, won against Filipino qualifier Alexandra Eala (6-3, 6-0) and Chinese wildcard Zhuoxuan Bai (6-1, 6-2) earlier in the tournament.
