Grand Est Open: Lys upsets seventh seed Burel, to play Rus in quarter-finals

German Eva Lys defeated Frenchwoman Clara Burel, the No 7 seed, 2-6, 6-1, 6-3 to reach the quarter-finals of the Grand Est Open at Tennis Club de Contrexéville in Contréxeville on Wednesday evening.
Lys, ranked No 159, will play Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus, the No 4 seed, next.
Ahead of her victory, the 21-year-old German edged out Russian Maria Timofeeva (6-2, 2-6, 6-4).
Burel, ranked No 104, won against Barbora Palicova (7-5, 6-1) in the previous round of the Contréxeville tournament.
