Greek Maria Sakkari, the second seed, advanced to the semi-finals of the Guadalajara Open Akron by defeating Colombian Emiliana Arango 6-3, 6-4 on Friday night.
Sakkari, ranked No 9, will play Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the No 3 seed, next.
The Greek won against Australian Storm Hunter (6-2, 6-4) and Italian Camila Giorgi (6-2, 6-2) ahead of her victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Arango, ranked No 180, beat Russian Anastasia Potapova, the No 11 seed (6-4, 6-3), American Sloane Stephens (6-1, 6-2) and American Taylor Townsend (7-5, 1-6, 6-4).
