Taylor Townsend reached the last 16 of the Guadalajara Open Akron by winning against lucky loser Elvina Kalieva 6-1, 7-6 (3) on Tuesday night.
Townsend, ranked No 101, will play Colombian Emiliana Arango next.
Ahead of her victory, Taylor Townsend beat Australian wildcard Ajla Tomljanovic (7-6 (3), 6-4).
