Slovenian Veronika Erjavec reached the second round of the Guangzhou Open by winning against German Tatjana Maria, the No 3 seed, 6-4, 6-7 (7), 6-2 at the Nansha International Tennis Center on Monday night.
Erjavec, ranked No 100, will play the winner of the match between Chinese wildcard Shuai Zhang and Russian Anastasia Zakharova next.
