Chinese wildcard Han Shi beat French qualifier Jessika Ponchet 6-1, 6-7 (4), 6-3 to reach the second round of the Guangzhou Open at the Nansha International Tennis Center on Tuesday.
Shi, ranked No 254, will face Spaniard Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, the No 7 seed, next.
