Canadian Leylah Fernandez reached the last four of the Hong Kong Open by winning against Linda Fruhvirtova 7-6 (2), 6-2 at the Victoria Park Tennis Center.
Fernandez, ranked No 60, will face Russian Anna Blinkova, the No 5 seed, next.
The 21-year-old Canadian benefited from the abandonment of Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, the top seed (2-6, 6-3) and beat Russian Mirra Andreeva (3-6, 6-1, 6-3) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous rounds of the Hong Kong tournament, Fruhvirtova, ranked No 88, edged out American Peyton Stearns, the No 7 seed (3-6, 6-4, 6-4) and defeated Russian qualifier Alina Korneeva (6-3, 7-5).
