Belgian Elise Mertens, the No 3 seed, won against Australian qualifier Daria Saville 6-1, 6-4 to reach the second round of the Hong Kong Open.
Mertens, ranked No 41, will face the winner of the match between Russian qualifier Sofya Lansere and wildcard Hong Yi Cody Wong next.
