Hungarian Grand Prix: Tsurenko in the quarter finals

Lesia Tsurenko edged out Kamilla Rakhimova 6-7 (1), 6-4, 7-5 on Wednesday afternoon. She’ll face the winner of the match between Kazakh Yulia Putintseva, the No 3 seed, and Brazilian lucky loser Laura Pigossi in the next round

Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko reached the last eight of the Hungarian Grand Prix by edging out Russian Kamilla Rakhimova 6-7 (1), 6-4, 7-5 at Római Tennis Academy in Budapest on Wednesday.

Tsurenko, ranked No 97, will face the winner of the match between Kazakh Yulia Putintseva, the No 3 seed, and Brazilian lucky loser Laura Pigossi next.

Ahead of her victory, the 33-year-old Ukrainian defeated Brazilian qualifier Carolina M. Alves (6-4, 6-1).

Rakhimova, ranked No 107, won against Romanian Elena-Gabriela Ruse, the No 7 seed (6-4, 6-7 (3), 6-3) in the previous round of the Hungarian Open.
