Hungarian Open: Baindl advances to semi-finals, beats third wild card in a row

Ukrainian Kateryna Baindl won against Hungarian wildcard Fanny Stollar 7-6 (5), 6-3 to reach the last four of the Hungarian Open at Római Tennis Academy in Budapest on Saturday.

Baindl, ranked No 100, will play American Claire Liu next.

Ahead of her victory, the Ukrainian defeated Hungarian wildcard Natalia Szabanin (6-4, 7-5) and Hungarian wildcard Amarissa Toth (6-3, 6-1).

Stollar, ranked No 441, beat Spanish qualifier Irene Burillo Escorihuela (7-5, 6-4) and edged out German Tatjana Maria, the No 5 seed (6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (6)) in the previous rounds of the Budapest tournament.
