Russian Diana Shnaider, the No 13 seed, reached the last 16 of the Italian Open by winning against Romanian Jaqueline Cristian 6-3, 6-3 at the Foro Italico in Roma on Saturday.
Shnaider, ranked No 11, will play the winner of the match between Belgian Elise Mertens, the No 25 seed, and American Jessica Pegula, the No 3 seed, next.
The 21-year-old Russian defeated American Caroline Dolehide (6-0, 6-0) ahead of her victory.
In the previous rounds of the Rome tournament, Cristian, ranked No 74, beat American Alycia Parks (6-2, 6-0) and Kazakh Yulia Putintseva, the No 23 seed (7-6 (2), 7-5).
