Italian Open: Tauson makes third round

Dane Clara Tauson, the No 22 seed, reached the third round of the Italian Open when American qualifier Katie Volynets retired on Friday at the Foro Italico in Roma.
Tauson, ranked No 23, led 7-5, 4-1 when Volynets, ranked No 66, pulled out at the Foro Italico in Roma on Friday.
The 22-year-old Dane will face the winner of the match between American Emma Navarro, the No 10 seed, and Russian lucky loser Kamilla Rakhimova next.
In the previous round of the Rome tournament, the American won against Dutch qualifier Arantxa Rus (6-3, 6-3).
