Chinese Xinyu Wang, the No 3 seed, beat Japanese qualifier Himeno Sakatsume 6-4, 6-2 to advance to the last 8 of the Kinoshita Group Japan Open Tennis Championships on Thursday night.
Wang, ranked No 39, will play Kazakh Yulia Putintseva, the No 6 seed, next.
In the previous round, the 21-year-old Chinese won against Swiss Jil Teichmann (7-6 (3), 6-3).
Sakatsume, ranked No 184, won against Filipino qualifier Alexandra Eala (6-0, 6-3) during the 32.
