Swiss Jil Teichmann, the No 5 seed, moved into the last 16 of the L & T Mumbai Open when American Emina Bektas retired on Tuesday night.
Teichmann, ranked No 117, led 6-1 when Bektas, ranked No 184, pulled out on Tuesday.
The Swiss will play Dutchwoman Arianne Hartono next.
