L&T Mumbai Open: Yamaguchi makes last eight

Japanese qualifier Mei Yamaguchi reached the quarter-finals of the L & T Mumbai Open by edging out Swiss Simona Waltert 7-6 (3), 2-6, 6-4 on Thursday.
Yamaguchi, ranked No 285, will play the winner of the match between Kazakh Zarina Diyas and Indian qualifier Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi next.
Ahead of her victory, the Japanese benefited from the abandonment of Israeli Lina Glushko (6-3, 5-4).
Waltert, ranked No 161, benefited from the abandonment of Frenchwoman Leolia Jeanjean, the No 7 seed (3-0) in the previous round.
