Loïs Boisson hires Carlos Martinez ahead of Asian swing
Loïs Boisson, French Open semi-finalist, feels ready to start a new chapter with Carlos Martinez ahead of Asian swing.

Loïs Boisson, the French sensation who shocked the tennis world with her breakthrough run to the Roland-Garros semifinals earlier this year, has made a significant change on her coaching team ahead of the crucial Asian hard-court swing. According to L’Équipe, will now be working with Spanish coach Carlos Martinez, well known on the WTA Tour.
In August, shortly before the US Open, Boisson announced the end of her partnership with Florian Reynet, her coach for the past two years, explaining candidly in New York : “We had a bit of trouble understanding each other.” The 22 year-old added : “It was time for a change; sometimes communication is key, and when that’s missing, progress stalls.” Despite the split, Boisson thanked Reynet for his guidance during her breakthrough phase.
Martinez, well known on the WTA Tour
Boisson’s rise this season has been meteoric. At just 23, she captured her first WTA title in Hamburg and reached the semifinals of Roland-Garros, quickly establishing herself as France’s top female player. She’s world No. 41 after having started the year No. 188.
Enter Carlos Martinez Comet, born September 5, 1974, a seasoned figure on the women’s tour, whose coaching pedigree speaks volumes. At 51, Martinez has worked with several elite players, including former Grand Slam champion Svetlana Kuznetsova (2013 then 2016), and rising star Daria Kasatkina (2019-2023).
He also served as head coach to Simona Halep during a critical period in her career. In 2024, Halep hired Carlos Martinez as her coach for her return to tennis after her anti-doping suspension was shortened by the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Martinez took on the coaching role at the start of Halep’s comeback, preparing her for her first event back – the Miami Open in March 2024 – after more than 18 months away from competition.
Halep rejoined the WTA Tour at Miami (March 2024, lost to Badosa in three sets), then entered a WTA 125 event in Paris (retired with a knee injury), and participated in the Hong Kong 125 Open, where she won her first match since 2022 but lost in the following round.
Asian swing
Martinez is known for his holistic coaching approach – combining technical adjustments, tactical refinement, mental resilience training, and detailed match analysis. Based out of his CMC Competition academy near Barcelona, Martinez has developed a reputation for nurturing talent and helping players sustain high-level performances.
For Boisson, teaming up with Martinez signals a strategic move to build consistency on the WTA Tour’s demanding hard courts. The pair will debut their collaboration on the Asian swing, at Seoul, Beijing, Wuhan, Osaka, and Tokyo. These events offer Boisson not only ranking points, because she was injured last year at this stage of the year, but also invaluable experience against the tour’s elite, crucial as she aims to cement her status among the world’s best.
