Madrid Open: Keys books spot in last 16

American Madison Keys, the No 18 seed, moved into the last 16 of the Madrid Open by beating Russian Liudmila Samsonova, the No 15 seed, 6-2, 6-3 at the Caja Magica on Saturday evening.

Keys, ranked No 20, will face the winner of the match between American Coco Gauff, the No 3 seed, and Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska, the No 31 seed, next.

Ahead of her victory, the American won against Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu (7-6 (3), 7-6 (6)).

Samsonova, ranked No 17, edged out Japanese Naomi Osaka (6-2, 4-6, 7-5) in the previous round of the Madrid tournament.
