Madrid Open: Vekic moves into third round
Donna Vekic beat Hailey Baptiste 6-4, 6-3 on Thursday and will play the winner of the match between Australian qualifier Maya Joint and American Emma Navarro, the No 11 seed, in the next round

Croat Donna Vekic, the No 19 seed, beat American wildcard Hailey Baptiste 6-4, 6-3 to advance to the third round of the Madrid Open at the Caja Mágica on Thursday.
Vekic, ranked No 21, will face the winner of the match between Australian qualifier Maya Joint and American Emma Navarro, the No 11 seed, next.
In the previous round of the Madrid tournament, Baptiste, ranked No 88, edged out Romanian Sorana Cirstea (6-2, 5-7, 7-6 (4)).
