Madrid Open: Zheng books spot in round of 32
Qinwen Zheng beat Catherine McNally 6-4, 7-6 (3) on Friday. She’ll play the winner of the match between Frenchwoman Alize Cornet and Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova, the No 16 seed, in the next round
Chinese Qinwen Zheng, the No 22 seed, moved into the round of 32 at the Madrid Open by winning against American Catherine McNally 6-4, 7-6 (3) at the Caja Magica on Friday.
Zheng, ranked No 24, will play the winner of the match between Frenchwoman Alize Cornet and Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova, the No 16 seed, next.
McNally, ranked No 69, defeated Hungarian Dalma Galfi (4-6, 6-0, 6-3) in the previous round of the Madrid tournament.
