Makarska Open: Sramkova advances to last 8
Rebecca Sramkova defeated Peyton Stearns 6-3, 7-5 on Thursday and will face the winner of the match between Ukrainian Kateryna Baindl, the No 6 seed, and Russian Darya Astakhova in the next round
Slovak qualifier Rebecca Sramkova advanced to the last eight of the Makaraska Open by defeating American Peyton Stearns, the No 4 seed, 6-3, 7-5 at Tennis Center Makarska on Thursday afternoon.
Sramkova, ranked No 222, will face the winner of the match between Ukrainian Kateryna Baindl, the No 6 seed, and Russian Darya Astakhova next.
The Slovak won against Slovenian Dalila Jakupovic (2-6, 6-1, 6-2) ahead of her victory.
In the previous round of the Makarska tournament, Stearns, ranked No 69, won against Hungarian Reka Luca Jani (2-6, 6-4, 6-2).
