Miami Open: Boulter into third round as Fruhvirtova pulls out through injury and illness

No 24 seed Katie Boulter reached the third round of the Miami Open when Czech wildcard Brenda Fruhvirtova withdrew, seemingly struggling with a right knee injury and illness, as she was trailing 7-6 (5), 1-0 at the Hard Rock Stadium on Thursday evening.
Boulter, ranked No 30, will play the winner of the match between Frenchwoman Diane Parry and Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No 11 seed, next.
“I think it’s one of the toughest things to do,” Boulter told Sky Sports, of taking on an injured opponent. “One moment I saw her team telling her to pull (out); the next she’s running for 10 shots side to side. I probably wasn’t the kindest to myself today.”
In the previous round of the Miami tournament, Fruhvirtova, ranked No 105, defeated Argentinian qualifier Maria Lourdes Carle (6-3, 6-3).
